Biographical Sketch

Nicolas Le Moigne is an up and coming product designer who has achieved early success with prizes and competition wins. He is currently studying at ECAL – Ecole cantonale d’art de Lausanne, where he will finish his Master degree in 2006.

During his first year in Ecal, and after a one week workshop, he developed a roto-molded flowerpot that is now produced by the Italian company Serralunga. This project was presented at the Milan Fair in April 2003 and received an enthusiastic response.

In 2004, he won the first prize in a competition to create a public clock for the city of Geneva. This prize brought Nicolas the chance to develop the project and to work in collaboration with Omega Electronics for the production of the clock. At the same time he worked on a piece of jewelry (rings to twiddle with one’s thumbs) for an exhibition with Ecal. The jeweler who exhibited the resultant piece decided to keep the innovative rings in his permanent collection to show his varied capabilities.

At the beginning of 2005 Nicolas won the first prize of the Designboom competition Re-think/ Re-cycle. His idea consists of re-using plastic and glass bottles. A plastic closing piece is able to fit different shapes of bottles and to change it into a watering can. The day after the award ceremony, an Italian company, Viceversa, contacted Nicolas for the production of his project. The item has been exhibited during the ICFF New York’s Fair, the Tokyo Design Week and in Shanghai for the Swiss Design Now exhibition.
